In an effort to help you prepare for next season (and as a good excuse for us to cuddle up with a good book instead of facing the cold) Trigirl is excited to announce our new book review section. In the upcoming months, we’ll be weeding through training books, inspirational titles and training plan guides, and letting you know who offers the best advice to help you get next season off to a great start.

As a women’s-specific triathlon brand, we’re starting with The Woman Triathlete, edited by Christina Gandolfo.

Review Summary
Overall, the book offers sound advice and would be an asset to every novice triathlete. For more advanced athletes, the book offers training plan advice, drill suggestions and many other tips that are still helpful for reference.

Triathlon Start to Finish – Sam Murphy

Review Summary

Triathlon Start to Finish is a worthwhile read for any beginner or fairly new triathlete, especially those working without the guidance of a coach. The best part is that it’s actually enjoyable reading, giving good advice, but in a way that’s not dry or boring.

Triathlon Start to Finish provides a sound knowledge base to get anyone on the right track to triathlon racing fun.

Triathlon 20 Weeks to Success in 5 Hours a Week – Mark Barfield


Review Summary
Triathlon: 20 Weeks to Success in 5 Hours a Week is not a book that most will pick up and read from cover-to-cover. However, if you’re looking for a training plan that won’t require weeding through a lot of technical lingo, the 20-week training programme is worth a look.

The remainder is thorough, but not as interesting as some other triathlon books on the market.
