Triathlon Race Day Checklist
There’s a lot to remember in a triathlon. Here’s what you need to get you through race day…
The Swim
- Tri Suit (tested prior to race day so that you know it’s comfortable!)
- Goggles- preferably a clear or light-coloured set for pool swims or cloudy conditions, a dark set for bright sun
- Swim cap (race should provide, but bring one just in case)
- Neoprene swim cap (for cold water swims)
- Wetsuit (compulsory in some races, optional in others)
- Non-petroleum lubrication- for easy wetsuit entry/exit, to help prevent chafing
The Bike
- Bike- important 🙂
- Helmet
- Cycling or triathlon shoes
- Socks (wicking material, not cotton!)
- Gilet/jacket (optional)
- Gloves (optional)
- Arm warmers (optional)
- Sunglasses
- Bike computer (optional)
- Bike frame bag (for patch kit, etc.)
- Pump or CO2 inflation system– frame pump or CO2 cartridges & inflator. Remember, you are responsible for changing any punctures!
- Spare tubes, patch kit, tire levers
- Chain lube
- Water bottles
- Nutrition
The Run
- Trainers
- Socks
- Hat or Visor
- Orthodics, if using
- Lace locks, speedlaces, elastic laces (optional)
- Nutrition
General/Transition
- Two small towels (one to mark your area, one for wiping feet)
- Race belt for race number- easier and quicker than pins!
- Race number and chip
- Watch/Heart-rate monitor
- Waterproof sunscreen
- Triathlon federation ID, other identification
- Post-race apparel and comfortable post-race shoes
